Milking the Benefits

Simon Waithaka is desperate to make a living as a small-scale milk trader, but times are tough. “Sometimes I have to work elsewhere to raise enough money to make the rent,” he says. Simon needs training in milk hygiene and business skills, and the right support to make improvements to his business. “If I can get a good refrigerator I can succeed”, Simon says, “but I have no money”. Traidcraft is working with small-scale dairy traders like Simon to help them make a success of their businesses – and ensure that poor people can afford to buy their daily milk too.

£8 could help a small dairy trader like Simon receive training and support to improve his business.

Crafting a Future

Woodcarvers in Kenya have lost 75 per cent of their international market share since 2000. Over 400,000 people who rely on the industry for their survival have been badly affected. Francis Mutinda has been a woodcarver for over 10 years: “My needs are increasing,” he says. “More orders would help. If there’s one thing I would tell buyers abroad, it’s this: bring orders, so we continue our homes, and educate our children.” Traidcraft has started a new project to help woodcarvers like Francis rebuild their livelihoods.

£40 could help a woodcarver like Francis gain access to new markets and secure a brighter future for their family.
